Evaporation System for Zhuzhou Chemical Group

KDP Machinery (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. lists an evaporation system for Zhuzhou Chemical Group among its project cases: a 50,000 tonnes per year evaporation system for ion-exchange membrane caustic soda.
In the ion-exchange membrane process, the caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) leaving the electrolyzers is a dilute solution, typically around 32%. An evaporation system removes water to concentrate it to the commercial grades customers need, most commonly 50%. Because hot, concentrated caustic soda is highly corrosive, the choice of heat transfer surface and materials is critical in this duty.
KDP's product information describes plate evaporators as heat exchangers in which corrugated plates form channels for the liquid and the heating medium, usually steam. The corrugations create turbulence that raises heat transfer coefficients, and the high surface area per unit volume keeps the equipment compact. KDP lists acid and alkali concentration, including NaOH, among the chemical applications of its plate evaporators, and offers nickel alloys and other corrosion-resistant plate materials for aggressive and high-pH duties.
The Zhuzhou Chemical Group project is one of KDP's reference cases in the chemical industry, alongside its range of fully welded, semi-welded and gasketed plate heat exchangers, plate condensers and plate-and-shell heat exchangers.
