Plate-Shell Heat Exchanger (PSHE)
A plate-shell heat exchanger encloses a welded corrugated plate bundle inside a pressure shell. The design combines high plate-side heat-transfer efficiency with the pressure containment and nozzle flexibility of a shell structure. It is used for LNG liquefaction and regasification, BOG reliquefaction, oil and gas, chemical plants, high-temperature reaction heat recovery, marine service, flue-gas heat recovery, and other harsh process duties.

Why PSHE
PSHE is selected when plate heat-transfer efficiency is needed but the process pressure, temperature, vibration, or nozzle arrangement requires a pressure shell.
Engineering checks
A PSHE project should confirm pressure vessel code, shell-side design, welded plate bundle inspection, thermal expansion, vibration, nozzle loads, and cleaning or replacement access.
Key Advantages
Technical Specifications
| Plate bundle | Welded corrugated plate bundle installed inside a pressure shell |
|---|---|
| Design checks | Pressure vessel code, vibration, thermal stress, nozzle load, inspection access, and cleaning method |
| Shell pressure | High-pressure service above 10 MPa when designed for the duty |
| Flow arrangement | Plate-side and shell-side flow paths with project-specific nozzle orientation |
| Temperature service | Can be applied to 400°C reaction-product heat recovery when materials and design allow |
| Typical applications | LNG liquefaction/regasification, BOG reliquefaction, oil and gas, chemical plants, marine service, flue-gas heat recovery, and high-pressure process heat exchange |
